My Background

Having worked in harm reduction, sexual assault response, sex education, sex worker support and queer disability services, I have developed a plethora of on the ground experience as a resource for many communities and individuals at unique and diverse intersections of marginalized identities.

I am determined to provide a safe and supportive environment for folks of all genders and identities to get curious about their relationship to their body, and move towards developing connection to the body that can offer information about behaviours, beliefs, internalized narratives, what we come up against in the outside world, and how we may support ourselves along the way.

FAQ

What is somatic therapy?

Somatic therapy is a body-based approach to healing that focuses on sensations, nervous system responses, and the wisdom of the body — not just thoughts or stories. Rather than analysing experiences, somatic therapy supports you to gently notice what’s happening in your body in the present moment, allowing for deeper regulation, integration, and change.

How is somatic therapy different from talk therapy?

While talk therapy works primarily through conversation and cognition, somatic therapy includes the body as an active part of the process. We may work with breath, movement, sensation, and awareness to support healing at a nervous system level — especially in areas where words alone may not reach.

What can somatic therapy help with?

Somatic therapy can support:

  • Anxiety, stress, and nervous system overwhelm
  • Trauma and post-traumatic stress
  • Chronic tension or holding patterns
  • Emotional regulation and resilience
  • Disconnection from the body
  • Relationship and intimacy challenges

The work is paced slowly and shaped around what feels supportive for you.

What happens in a somatic therapy session?

Sessions typically begin with conversation to understand what you’re arriving with. From there, we may explore body awareness, breath, gentle movement, grounding practices, or guided inquiry. The focus is always on safety, consent, and following your body’s cues rather than pushing or reliving experiences.

Do you work with individuals and couples?

Yes. I work with individuals and couples. Couples sessions may focus on co-regulation, communication, boundaries, and relational dynamics, supporting deeper safety and connection within the relationship.

Is somatic therapy suitable if I feel disconnected from my body?

Absolutely. Many people come to somatic therapy because they feel numb, disconnected, or unsure how to sense their bodies. The work meets you exactly where you are — there’s no “right” way to feel or sense.

Is somatic therapy safe for trauma?

Yes. Somatic therapy is widely used in trauma-informed care because it works with the nervous system rather than cognitive recall. The approach emphasises safety, choice, pacing, and regulation.
